Welcome to ZapSpam. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of ZapSpam's website, services, and applications (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
1. Description of Service
ZapSpam is an automated calendar spam protection service that:
- Connects to your Google Calendar account via OAuth authentication
- Monitors your calendar events for spam indicators
- Identifies suspicious calendar invites based on predefined criteria
- May automatically delete identified spam events from your calendar
- Provides a dashboard to review, manage, and restore deleted events
- Allows you to whitelist trusted domains to prevent false positives
2. User Accounts and Google Authentication
To use ZapSpam, you must:
- Have a valid Google account
- Grant ZapSpam permission to access your Google Calendar data
- Be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction)
- Provide accurate and complete information during registration
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.
3. Calendar Access and Event Deletion
Important Notice: ZapSpam requires permission to read, modify, and delete events in your Google Calendar. By using the Service, you explicitly authorize ZapSpam to:
- Read calendar events to identify potential spam
- Delete events that match our spam detection criteria
- Store copies of deleted events for review and restoration purposes
- Access calendar metadata including event creators, descriptions, and attendee settings
You acknowledge and agree that:
- Event deletion may occur automatically without prior notice
- False positives may occur, and legitimate events may be incorrectly identified as spam
- Deleted events can be restored through the ZapSpam dashboard, subject to availability
- We make reasonable efforts to accurately detect spam, but cannot guarantee perfect accuracy
4. Spam Detection Criteria
ZapSpam identifies potential spam events based on the following criteria:
- Event creator's email domain is external to your organization
- Event settings prevent guests from inviting others
- Event settings prevent guests from seeing other guests
- Event description contains links or phone numbers
Events from domains you have whitelisted will not be flagged or deleted. You can manage your whitelist through the Settings page.
5. User Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms
- Not attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service
- Not use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the Service
- Review your whitelist settings to prevent legitimate events from being deleted
- Regularly check the ZapSpam dashboard for any incorrectly flagged events
- Maintain backup copies of important calendar events through other means
- Not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the Service
6. Service Modifications and Availability
We reserve the right to:
- Modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without prior notice
- Change spam detection criteria and algorithms
- Update these Terms at any time (continued use constitutes acceptance)
- Limit features or restrict access to certain users
The Service is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
7. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by:
- Revoking ZapSpam's access in your Google Account settings
- Contacting us to request account deletion
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if:
- You violate these Terms
- Your use poses a security or legal risk
- Your account has been inactive for an extended period
- Required by law
Upon termination, we will cease monitoring your calendar, but previously collected data may be retained as described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement
- Guarantees of spam detection accuracy
- Assurances that legitimate events will not be deleted
- Promises of service availability or uptime
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ZAPSPAM SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:
- Deletion of legitimate calendar events (false positives)
- Missed or undetected spam events (false negatives)
- Loss of important calendar data or missed appointments
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities
- Damages exceeding the amount you have paid us in the past 12 months (if any)
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for consequential damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ZapSpam, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:
- Your use or misuse of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any rights of another party
- False positives or deleted events that result in missed obligations or appointments
10. Data and Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your data. Key points include:
- We access your Google Calendar data solely to provide spam protection services
- We store deleted event data to enable restoration functionality
- We comply with Google API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements
- We do not sell or share your calendar data with third parties for marketing purposes
11. Google API Services
ZapSpam's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. This means:
- We only use your Google Calendar data to provide and improve our spam protection features
- We do not transfer your data to third parties except as necessary to provide the Service
- We do not use your data for advertising purposes
- Human access to your data is restricted to specific scenarios (debugging, security, compliance)
12. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, content, and trademarks, is owned by ZapSpam and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not:
- Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Service
- Use our trademarks without prior written permission
- Remove or alter any copyright or proprietary notices

The Service integrates with third-party services, including:
- Google Calendar API
- Payment processing services (Stripe)
- Hosting and infrastructure providers
Your use of these third-party services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of these third parties.
14. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States and the State of Virginia, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in court.
You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
16. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and ZapSpam regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
17. Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision.

BY USING ZAPSPAM, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ THESE TERMS OF SERVICE, UNDERSTAND THEM, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THEM. YOU FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGE THAT:
- You understand that ZapSpam may automatically delete events from your calendar
- You accept the risk of false positives (legitimate events being deleted)
- You will regularly review your whitelist settings and deleted events
- You maintain responsibility for important calendar events and should keep backups
